## Commentary

Carthusian Monastery in the Vicinity of Rome c. 1858 Oil on canvas, 65 x 45 cm Magyar Nemzeti Galéria, Budapest Károly Telepy spent two years in Rome drawing antique ruins and other monuments. On this picture three old cypresses can be seen with a Carthusian monastery in the background. According to the tradition the trees were planted by Michelangelo.
