# Flared neck vase [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DAMMOUSE, Albert-Louis]() - Date: 1851-1900 - Technique: Porcelain, diameter 18 cm ## Commentary This vase has pâte-sur-pâte decoration, and enamel decoration heightened with gold. Pâte-sur-pâte \(French: "paste on paste"\) is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed body by applying successive layers of white slip \(liquid clay\) with a brush. The technique was first employed by the Chinese in the 18th century.
