# Font [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MEDIEVAL SCULPTOR, English]() - Date: 1151-1200 - Technique: Stone ## Commentary Most of the existing Romanesque fonts in England were produced using stone. The stone basin in the village of Avebury \(Wiltshire\) has a flat relief, in the lower part a garland of tightly interlaced blind arcades circles the body of the font. This motif was popular and can often be found as an architectural ornamentation in English Romanesque churches. Above it are vines of varying length.
