It depicts the siege of Mortagne, near Bordeaux, in 1377. The castle was held by the English and besieged by the French under a Welshman in the French service, Owen of Wales, who was treacherously killed \(far right\) by an arrow. The miniature reflects conditions in the late 15th century, when it was painted, rather than the 14th.
