## Commentary

The Raising of Lazarus c. 1455 Oil on wood, 122 x 92 cm Staatliche Museen, Berlin This large, well-preserved panel is the sole surviving painting of Ouwater. The scene is set within a Romanesque apse, reflecting the medieval tradition of burial within the church. Christ blesses the raised Lazarus whose sisters Martha and Mary are to the left with three apostles; Peter is at the centre, the rabbis to the right.
