## Commentary

Werenskiold attended the Impressionist exhibition spring 1882. Later that year, on Tatøy, an island off Norway&#39;s Sørland coast, he painted the Shepherds on Tatøy. The influence of Pissarro is apparent; a large proportion of the 35 works the French artist exhibited in 1882 depicted farm girls and &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/p/pissarro/camille/5/05figure.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/p/pissarro/camille/5/05figure.html&#34;&gt;shepherdesses.&lt;/a&gt;
