## Commentary

Perspective of gardens c. 1674 Oil on canvas, 400 x 300 cm Musée National du Château, Versailles Jacques Rousseau was noted as a painter of decoration. He painted a vast landscape decoration, now lost, in the Orangery at Saint-Cloud and a series of smaller ones in the gallery at the Hôtel Lambert.
