# Portrait of Emperor Maximilian [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DÜRER, Albrecht]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Woodcut ## Commentary Dürer made a sketch from life of the Emperor on June 18th, 1518, at Augsburg. The drawing, which is in the Albertina, Vienna, was the original for the woodcut. In the first rare edition the letters "ae" in the word Caesar are separate and enclosed in the C.
