# The Sea at L'Estaque [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [CÉZANNE, Paul]() - Date: 1851-1900 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 73 x 92 cm ## Commentary In the first half of the 1880s, Cézanne painted in L'Estaque. The paintings from this period include the present landscape. In this somewhat traditional composition Cézanne has clearly separated the planes of the picture and used the Baroque tradition of the 'repoussoir' to increase the impression of depth.
