# Exterior view [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ARCHITECT, German]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary Bückeburg Palace in Lower Saxony was placed within the context of a town, the extended castle structure was incorporated into the urban environment. The palace of Prince Ernst von Schaumburg is a medieval moated fortress with sixteenth-century additions. The four-winged Renaissance palace was built in the middle of the 16th century. After the fire of 1732 the palace interior and exterior were both restored in the early Baroque style. Bückburg should be regarded primarily as one of the earliest Baroque urban ensembles in Germany rather than as an example of a Baroque building.
