# Hours of Jeanne de Navarre [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [JEAN LE NOIR]() - Date: 1301-1350 - Technique: Manuscript \(Ms. nouv. acq. lat. 3145\), 180 x 135 mm ## Commentary Hours of Jeanne de Navarre 1336-40 Manuscript \(Ms. nouv. acq. lat. 3145\), 180 x 135 mm Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris This small, brilliantly illustrated book of hours was commissioned by King Philip VI of Valois \(reigned 1328-1350\) and his consort Blanche de Navarre for Jeanne de Navarre \(1311-1349\), the daughter of King Louis X of France. It contains prayers and devotional texts in Latin for the private use and edification of the laity. The miniatures were painted by Jean Le Noir and other illuminators from the workshop of Pucelle. Apart from a calendar, this book contains a cycle of miniatures illustrating four offices devoted to the Trinity, the Virgin Mary, Saint Louis and the Passion.
