# Madonna with the Yarnwinder [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [LEONARDO da Vinci]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Oil on panel, 48 x 37 cm ## Commentary Madonna with the Yarnwinder c. 1501 Oil on panel, 48 x 37 cm National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh The painting is called the Buccleuch Madona after its owner, the Duke of Buccleuch. It is on long-term loan from the Duke of Buccleuch's collection. The painting was executed by the workshop, however, Leonardo is thought to have taken part in producing this version of the Madonna with the Yarnwinder, a fact suggested primarily by the rock in the foreground and the boys face.
