## Commentary

Grasset&#39;s series of brooches and buckles for the Exposition Universelle in Paris \(1900\), designed for the firm Henri Vever, includes such dramatic symbolist images as Apparitions, with haunting superimposed heads of two women. The link between the death mask and the face of sleep is at the centre of the concerns of the Symbolists.
