## Commentary

Hendrick Joseph Dillens was a Belgian painter specialized in genre scenes and portraits. He was a pupil at the Academy of Gent and Maes Canini, and he taught his younger brother, Adolphe-Alexandre Dillens \(1821-1877\), who was also a genre painter.
