# Nuremberg Chronicle, page XLI \(recto\) [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [PLEYDENWURFF, Wilhelm]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Woodcut, folio ## Commentary The Nuremberg Chronicle \(Liber chronicarum\) was published by the Nuremberg doctor and humanist Hartmann Schedel. This work, which appeared in 1493, contained a total of 1809 woodcuts and, with its illustrations and descriptions based on the seven ages, was meant to represent a history of the world and its peoples. The illustrations were made by Michael Wolgemut and his stepson Wilhelm Pleydenwurff. The chronicle became internationally famous. ## Attribution [Web Gallery of Art]()
