## Commentary

Ameto&#39;s Discovery of the Nymphs c. 1410 Tempera on wood, 54 x 56 cm Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York This twelve-sided panel is the front of a marriage salver. It illustrates an episode from Boccaccio&#39;s Comedia delle Ninfe Florentine, written in c. 1342. The hunter Ameto, dressed in red, peers over a hill and then approaches some nymphs in a thicket.
