## Commentary

Portrait of a Lady as Hebe c. 1797 Watercolour and bodycolour on ivory, ormolu frame, diameter 79 mm Private collection The sitter is traditionally identified as Catherine-Joséphine Rafin, called Mademoiselle Duchesnois \(1777-1835\). She was a French actress, the great rival of Bonaparte&#39;s protégée, Mademoiselle George.
