# Bust of Camilla Barbadori [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [BERNINI, Gian Lorenzo]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Marble, height 77 cm ## Commentary Camilla Barbadori \(died 1609\) was the mother of Cardinal Maffeo Barberini \(1568-1644\), the future Pope Urban VIII. Her bust was to join a companion piece of the cardinal's father, prince Antonio Barberini \(1507-1571\), in niches in the family vault at the Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome. The bust was possibly commissioned by her eldest son Carlo Barberini \(1562-1630\), who became head of the Barberini family when his father died.
