## Commentary

This painting is based on a &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/l/leyden/2/crucifix.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/l/leyden/2/crucifix.html&#34;&gt;work by Lucas van Leyden&lt;/a&gt; dated 1517, but Karel van Mander adds a Brueghelian touch by depicting a Flemish winter, which gives the work its originality.
