# Victory of Francesco Bembo over the Fleet of Filippo Maria Visconti [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [PALMA GIOVANE]() - Date: 1551-1600 - Technique: Oil on canvas ## Commentary The battle scenes and allegories on the ceiling of the Sala del Maggior Consiglio \(Hall of the Great Council\) in the Palazzo Ducale were commissioned by the spring of 1578, after the disastrous fire of 1577. Palma Giovane had the opportunity to establish himself as the most promising young artist in Venice.
