# Andromache Mourning Hector [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DAVID, Jacques-Louis]() - Date: 1801-1850 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 275 x 203 cm ## Commentary David became a full Academician with Andromache Mourning Hector, which he presented on 23 August 1783, just in time for it to be shown at the Salon. The painting represents a scene from Homer's Iliad where Andromache grieves over the body of her husband Hector, who has been killed by Achilles in the Trojan War.
