## Commentary

Necklace c. 1900 Gold, sapphires, emeralds, 7 x 11 cm Neue Sammlung, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Munich In his silver candelabra, van de Velde achieved the final conquest of the third dimension by line in an exemplary fashion. In his jewellery designs around 1900, the spatially hungry line is changed back into a dynamic linear ornament.
