## Commentary

Woman of the Apocalypse c. 1520 Coloured limewood, 187 x 63 x 36 cm Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen, Dresden This statue originates from the High Altar of the Michaeliskirche in Zeitz \( Burgenlandkreis,Saxony-Anhalt\). The image of the Virgin on a crescent moon reflects the vision of Saint John \(Apocalypse 12:1\): &#34;a woman clothed in the sun, and the moon was under her feet.&#34;
