# The Beheading of Niccolò di Tuldo [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [SODOMA, Il]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary In the Cappella di Santa Caterina of the Sienese church of San Domenico, Sodoma's mural paintings dominate the decoration. Only the left-hand wall was completed by Sodoma. The prospect shows Catherine saving the soul of Niccolò di Tuldo: she converts the conspirator before his execution; when the head of the dead man is presented to the people, she sees his soul floating into heaven. Sodoma uses particular means to bring us close to the scene.
