# Exterior view [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ARCHITECT, Italian]() - Date: 1251-1300 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary The Franciscan church of San Lorenzo in Vicenza was built in the years following 1281. Externally, the most notable feature is the Lombard screen-façade with its graceful, stone-faced blind arcading into which a massive <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/s/santi1/portal.html'\)" href="/html/s/santi1/portal.html">sculptured portal</a> was inserted in 1342-44 by Andriolo de Santi. The brick and terracotta detailing completes a network of relationships that spreads not only through the Veneto but throughout the Lombard and Emilian plain. Nevertheless, despite the linkages of detail, none of the relevant late-thirteenth-century parallels can rival San Lorenzo in Vicenza in its quiet harmonies. The photo shows the façade of the church.
