# Tomb effigy of François de Sarrà [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [UNKNOWN MASTER, Swiss]() - Date: 1351-1400 - Technique: Stone ## Commentary The tomb effigy of François de Sarrà shows his body being eaten by frogs and worms. Several legends were told about the striking transi of François de Sarrà in La Sarraz, Switzerland. One legend stated that he died a violent death while hunting and fell into a lake. When he was found much later by his family he was covered with frogs and snakes which were then depicted on his tomb.
