## Commentary

Henri III was the third son of Henri II and Catherine de Médicis. Initially duc d&#39;Anjou and then, in 1573, elected king of Poland, he succeeded his brother Charles IX in 1574. He is wearing the blue ribbon of the Order of the Saint-Esprit, which he instituted in 1578.
