## Commentary

An Extensive River Landscape c. 1659 Oil on canvas, 101 x 150 cm National Gallery, London The painting depicts an extensive river landscape, with two sportsmen and their greyhounds. The landscape is probably based on the coastal sand dunes to the west of Haarlem where the painter spent his entire career.
