## Commentary

SHCHEDRIN, Feodosy Fyodorovich \(b. 1751, St. Petersburg, d. 1825, St. Petersburg\) Marsyas 1776 Bronze State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow Marsyas is the first significant work by the artist, executed during his stay in Paris. It received the Gold Medal of the French Academy. The bronze version of the statue was made only in 1906 after a damaged gypsum model.
