## Commentary

Taking of Christ with the Malchus Episode c. 1620 Oil on canvas, 147 x 194 cm Museum of Fine Arts, Boston This dramatic and strongly coloured picture was influenced by Caravaggio's Taking of Christ and by Bartolomeo Manfredi's lost painting of the same subject. Regarding the authorship, stylistic analysis points to a Flemish painter active in Rome, most likely to Douffet. It is assumed, however, that Valentin de Boulogne participated in the earliest stages.
