## Commentary

Out of Matthijs Bril&#39;s sheets depicting famous Roman monuments only his compositions of the Castel Sant&#39;Angelo and the temples of the Forum Romanum can be considered as city views, since on these drawings various parts of the city appear in the background in addition to the large-scale architectural monuments.
