## Commentary

In addition to many sculptures of mythological subjects, Dannecken produced also dignified portrait busts, among them that of the writer Friedrich Schiller, who had a decisive influence on Dannecker&#39;s intellectual development. Friedrich von Schiller \(1759-1805\) was a German dramatist, poet, and historian, one of the greatest of German literary figures. The poets of German romanticism were strongly influenced by Schiller, and he ranks as one of the founders of modern German literature, second only to Goethe.
