## Commentary

The fairy tale illustrator Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin was based in St. Petersburg, continuing the tradition of Russian popular illustrated broad-sheets in an ornamental style of expressive colourfulness. The picture shows an illustration of the fairy tale Vassilissa the Beautiful.
