## Commentary

In 1852, Wild designed the water tower at Grimsby, modelling it after the tower of the Palazzo Publico in Siena. It is a hydraulic accumulator tower and a maritime landmark at the entrance to the Royal Dock, Grimsby. The tower \(94 m high and 8.5 m wide at the base\) was built to provide water pressure to power the hydraulic machinery \(for cranes, lock gates and sluices\) at the Grimsby Docks.
