DEMUT-MALINOVSKY, Vasily Ivanovich \(b. 1779, St. Petersburg, d. 1846, St. Petersburg\) The Russian Scaevola 1813 Gypsum State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow The classicist figure of the young peasant is depicted in the process of cutting his own hand in order to free himself from French captivity.
