# Sts Peter and Paul [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MEDIEVAL SCULPTOR, French]() - Date: 1101-1150 - Technique: Stone ## Commentary Eight such reliefs representing the twelve apostles originally ornamented the portal of the chapterhouse of Saint Etienne in Toulouse. Like the figures in the Saint-Sernin choir, these two apostles shelter under an arcade; but in their attitudes very little remains of the Saint-Sernin apostles. Peter and Paul are attenuated, animated and sinewy; their crossed legs suggest a walking movement, and the statues seem to break away from the plane of the wall to assume a life of their own.
