## Commentary

By using deep brown washes that contrasts sharply with the colour of the paper, the amateur draftsman De Bisschop creates an impression of sunlight. This Italianate-like picture shows the influence of De Bisschop&#39;s master, the Italianate painter Bartholomeus Breenbergh.
