## Commentary

The Courtyard of the Proveniershof c. 1735 Oil on canvas Frans Halsmuseum, Haarlem The painting shows the courtyard of the Proveniershof on the Groote Houtstraat at Haarlem. In the background can be seen the tower of the Nieuwe Kerk. At the centre is a pump with a figure of Hercules. The Proveniershof was a sort of home for old men.
