# The Forest Stream [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [RUISDAEL, Jacob Isaackszon van]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 100 x 129 cm ## Commentary The Forest Stream c. 1660 Oil on canvas, 100 x 129 cm Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York This type of landscape, with rocky hills, expansive trees, and a flowing stream, have been inspired by the <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/e/everding/allaert/scandina.html'\)" href="/html/e/everding/allaert/scandina.html">Scandinavian views</a> of Allaert van Everdingen, who wandered through Norway and Sweden in 1644, settled in Haarlem in 1645, and in 1652 moved to Amsterdam.
