## Commentary

Federico da Montefeltro&#39;s palace in Urbino dominates the city both physically and symbolically. Much of the work in the western part of the complex, designed by the Dalmatian architect Luciano Laurana, required substantial engineering since it follows the edge of a steep valley that separates the earlier part of the palace from a fortification to the north.
