Lieven Cruyl made series of drawings as well as individual renderings of the landmarks of Rome. Several of the drawings were later engraved by himself. The present print shows the façadethe front or principal face of a building, especially one elaborately constructed; a blind façade is a façade that is purely decorative and does not relate to the structure of the building. of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza on Piazza Sant'Eustachio, in reversed view. The church must be regarded as Francesco Borromini's masterpieceA term now loosely applied to the finest work by a particular artist or to any work of art of acknowledged greatness or of preeminence in its field. Originally it meant the piece of work by which a craftsman, having finished his training, gained the rank of'master' in his guild., where his style reached its zenith and where he played all the registers at his command.
