COMMENTARY

UNDERLINED TERMS ARE DEFINED IN THE GLOSSARY.

This church is dedicated to Pope Marcellus (308-9). The present was designed by Carlo Fontana and built between 1682 and 1686. The church was then judged to be finished, and finally consecrated in 1592. The curved (concave) late façade is considered one of the finest works of Fontana.
