COMMENTARY

UNDERLINED TERMS ARE DEFINED IN THE GLOSSARY.

The foundation of the church of San Zaccaria dates back to a donation from the Doge Pasquale Malpiero in 1457, and was the Easter Church of the and Doges. From 1458 Antonio Gambello was entrusted with the planning and building of the church; after his death the task was passed to Mauro Codussi.
