The foundation of the church of San Zaccaria dates back to a donation from the Doge Pasquale Malpiero in 1457, and was the Easter Church of the Signoriafrom the late Middle Ages, the governing body of some of the Italian city states, usually presided over by individual families. and Doges. From 1458 Antonio Gambello was entrusted with the planning and building of the church; after his death the task was passed to Mauro Codussi.
