Half-timber work is a method of building in which external and internal walls are constructed of timber frames and the spaces between the structural members are filled with such materials as brick, plaster, or wattle and daub. Churches of the half-timbered type are found in Europe in a region stretching from Holland across northern and eastern Germany.
The photo shows the Schwedenhaus in Altingen. In the Catholic areas in Württenberg. the timber structures are often lightened with Franconian decorative motifs, especially on the houses of well-to-do citizens of the seventeenth century like the Schwedenhaus.
