The foundation of town of Kazimierz Dolny is attributed to King Wladyslaw I the Short's son, King Kazimierz III the Great, who granted the town rights in the first half of the 14th century. Later, King Wladyslaw II Jagiello modernized Kazimierz Dolny, creating a modern town, with a market square and streets. It enjoyed its greatest prosperity in the 16th and the first half of the 17th century, due to the trade in grain conducted along the Vistula.
Celejowska town house was built for a wealthy merchant family. It has a fabulous attic storey, a balustradeA rail supported by a row of small posts or open-work panels. filled with carved figures of saints and an assortment of imaginary creatures, richly ornamented windows and a fine entrance portala doorway. A portal recessed in several steps was frequently used in Romanesque architecture; this meant that the often relatively small entrance was given considerable emphasis on the façade. and hallway. It now houses the Town Museum.
