This frescoWall painting technique in which pigments are applied to wet (fresh) plaster (intonaco). The pigments bind with the drying plaster to form a very durable image. Only a small area can be painted in a day, and these areas, drying to a slightly different tint, can in time be seen. Small amounts of retouching and detail work could be carried out on the dry plaster, a technique known as a secco fresco. is not a fragment detached from a larger image, it was conceived as an autonomous work, a decorative room painting. The plaster on which the fresco painting is laid, is applied to a support of reeds. The technique is characteristic of Volterrano, who was a skilled mural painter. The work originates from Cardinal Giovan Carlo de' Medici's villaa residence in the country (in Italy); villas acquired palace-like characteristics from the Renaissance onwards. at Castello"castle", palace..
