Huguet's most important work in the monasterythe complex of buildings used by a community of monks. Among the main elements of the complex are the church, cloister, chapter house (used by the governing body), refectory (dining room) and dormitory (sleeping quarters). at Batalha was in the two burial chapels attached to the church, the square Capela do Fundador on the south side, completed in 1434, containing the tombs of Joao I and his wife, and the circular chapela small separate place for worship, either part of a large church or a separate building. intended as a mausoleum for Duarte I (1433-1438) and his family. This remained unfinished, and is therefore called the Capelas Imperfeitas, the Unfinished Chapel.
The Capela do Fundador (the Founder's Chapel) is a masterpieceA term now loosely applied to the finest work by a particular artist or to any work of art of acknowledged greatness or of preeminence in its field. Originally it meant the piece of work by which a craftsman, having finished his training, gained the rank of'master' in his guild. of masonry work. The rectangular space is brightly lit, an octagonal domein architecture, hemispherical structure evolved from the arch, usually forming a ceiling or roof. with delicate stellar vaulting over the tomb of the royal couple. Everything - architectural members, ribs, moldings, plant and heraldic motifs - is executed with the utmost delicacy,
