Adam and Eve c. 1485 Oil on oak, 69,3 x 17,3 cm (each) Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna
The two pictures are on the back side of the side wings of a small triptychA painting in three sections, usually an altarpiece, consisting of a central panel and two outer panels, or wings. In many medieval triptychs the two outer wings were hinged so that could be closed over the center panel. Early triptychs were often portable., they can be seen when the altar is closed. In the open state the triptych represents the Madonna Enthroned with Saints, in an architectural setting.
