The picture shows the Ignudo at the upper right corner of the Sacrifice of Noah (above the prophet Isaiah).
The ignudiMale nudes. The best-known are the male nudes on Michelangelo's Sistine ceiling. in the third baya vaulted division of a nave, aisle, choir, or transept along its longitudinal axis. are painted with greater fluency and the modeling is more delicate - with greater attention being paid to the reflections and the subtle effects of light and shade - than those of the first bay. Moreover, their poses are no longer wholly symmetrical. In fact, in the two figures on the left, only the lower part of the body is symmetrical, while the twisting of the bust and the head are expressions of contrappostoAn asymmetrical pose in which the one part of the body is counterbalanced by another about the body's central axis. Ancient Greek sculptors developed contrapposto by creating figures who stand with their weight on one leg, the movement of the hips to one side being balanced by a counter movement of the torso. Contrapposto was revived during the Renaissance and frequently used by Mannerist artist, who developed a greater range of contrapposto poses.. The right arms of both are, however, extended toward the centre in order to hold the ribbon supporting the medallionIn architecture, a large ornamental plaquc or disc.. On the other hand, the ignudi on the right lean out toward the exterior, and the only difference between them appears to be the position of their arms.
