BIOGRAPHY
Dutch painter and art dealer, the son of the Amsterdam art dealer Emanuel van Pee. He began working for his father at a young age making copies of small cabinet paintings. He married to Hendrika Matthysdr in 1657 in Leiden and they had children,
He travelled to Antwerp via Leiden and Rotterdam, spent eight months there and in the churches he viewed the work of Rubens, Jordaens, and Van Dyck. He financed his trip by painting and selling pictures on the market in Antwerp.
Returning to the North, he lived in Amsterdam in 1659. He was specialized as a copyist of Italian paintings and worked for Gerrit van Uylenburgh. However, he also made genre scenes of his own invention.
From 1684 he is registered in the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke with many pupils. He was the teacher of his son Theodor van Pee (1669-1746), and the grandfather of the miniature painter Henriëtte van Pee (1692-1741). From 1684 he is registered in the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke with many pupils.
